Even Google Knows that Website Content is King

A new report shows Google investing $100 Million in premium web content for YouTube.  YouTube is already the leader in online video with a tremendous volume of users, video searches, etc. – and it’s gotten to this point largely on the backs of user-generated web content… So why this move towards professional “Hollywood” quality web content?

Because even Google knows that on the web, content is king. Designing your website to match your brand is important, but filling your design with engaging, user-friendly content is almost always at the heart of successful Internet Marketing. Whether you’re a local Baltimore web marketing company, or an Internet search powerhouse like Google – it all comes down to website content.

Your website’s content is one of the main ways that Google, Bing & Yahoo learn what topics your website should be considered an authority – and consequently what searches it should rank highly for… We’ve known the value of content for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for a long time, but Google’s indexing bot isn’t your only audience online!  With any website or web marketing campaign, you simply have to consider your users.

The announcement that Google is planning to spend up to $100 Million on professional web video content for YouTube helps make that point crystal clear. Internet Marketing is not just about ranking #1 in search (YouTube wins that battle already) – it’s also about providing something valuable that your website users actually want.

Online video sites are actually a great microcosm for this… Hulu & Netflix are other popular, growing internet video websites & streaming services – and both are powered by premium content that users want.  Your website design shouldn’t be that different…

I’m not suggesting that your website needs to be filled with network TV shows or premium, entertaining web videos, but I do think that every company should follow Google’s lead and invest in web content!
