Back to my shopping problem (specifically Amazon and Target)…
Thinking back, I honestly can’t remember the last time I sat down in front of my computer solely to buy something. It’s always when I am relaxing at home, browsing the web on my iPhone or iPad and let me tell you, Amazon Prime is wondrous! If Amazon and Target didn’t have mobile websites, I guarantee I would not be shopping on my mobile device nearly as much. (My wallet would also be a little happier.) It’s beyond convenient and those who have contributed to mobile traffic have increased 50% of all digital traffic.
Target even stated that in this past November and December, mobile drove 60% of Target.com traffic. comScore provided a list of retailers showing their mobile-only traffic percentage and Apple, Wal-Mart, Target, Ticketmaster, and QVC saw more than 50% of their traffic come from mobile-only shoppers. What does this mean for you?
As the numbers are proving, having a mobile or responsive website can greatly assist in your business making more money. And this doesn’t just go for e-commerce businesses – Think about what you do when you are considering buying a new car, moving to a new house, or simply paying a bill. Everyone goes right for their mobile device. It’s quicker, more accessible, and easier than sitting down in front of a computer.
A mobile site is different than a responsive site?
Yes, a mobile site is in fact different from a responsive website. A mobile site is its own entity; it exists parallel to your desktop site. There are definitely instances where a mobile site is the right solution, but for many websites today, a responsive website is the best of ALL worlds. No matter what size screen you’re viewing the website on, the site will automatically adjust to fit.
When a visitor lands on your webpage, you have 7 seconds to keep them there. Can they quickly find the information they need? Are there strong calls-to-action to lead them into your funnel? A responsive website can accomplish this. Within those 7 seconds if I’m required to pinch here and zoom there, chances are I’m gone.
