In the US, 98.9 million online buyers have made at least one purchase from their mobile device. As mobile usage continues to increase, this number will surely rise. Online sales in Q1 of 2014 were up 13% compared to Q1 of 2013. Consumers want information, and they want it fast. If someone does a Google search and clicks on the first result without finding what they want within a matter of seconds, they’re already onto the next listed result. A responsive website provides a superior online experience for your customers, making it easier for them to purchase from you.
One of my favorite things to do is shop. Shopping online? Even better. I’ve loved shopping for as long as I can remember. There are many reasons why people like to shop; for me I think it’s the excitement of having something new to wear. Studies say it’s all about that emotional connection.
I do about 85% of my online shopping via my iPhone or iPad, which leaves me frequenting several websites from mobile devices. If I visit a site that’s not designed to be responsive, I won’t stay long – and most likely won’t visit again. Non-responsive sites are frustrating, particularly when it comes to the checkout. Some websites might have a mobile version, but that doesn’t always work on tablets due to the differences in screen size.
Responsive websites solve the issue of all the different size screens and devices that people are using today. Take a second to think about all the different tablets, cell phones, etc. in your household. Then visit your favorite shopping website, and see if or how it displays differently on each screen. Personally, my screen sizes range from 4”-21”. Knowing that my favorite online clothing boutique is easily to view and navigate whether I am browsing on my iPhone or my desktop computer keeps me coming back. I know I will receive the same seamless and stress-free online experience that I am looking for. (Remember it has to be stress-free, due to the emotional shopping connection!)
